Invisible braces near Wandsworth: how does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is an innovative way to straighten your teeth – so much so that, when we describe it to our patients, it always sounds too good to be true. Comfortable, invisible and removable aligners that can straighten your teeth to perfection in less time than traditional braces: we know what you’re thinking – there must be a catch! With our hands on our hearts, it truly is as ground-breaking as it sounds. If you still don’t believe us, read on to learn exactly how this miracle treatment does its thing.

At New Smile Fulham, we offer you a FREE Invisalign consultation. During your visit, we’ll use state-of-the-art 3D scanning technology to take photos of your teeth and show you simulations of your smile post-treatment. We’ll also take impressions to create your very own Invisalign aligners. If you’re happy with your proposed treatment plan, we’ll order your aligners and start treatment in three to four weeks.

Once your aligners are ready, we’ll meet with you to go through the treatment process. Now, here’s the fascinating part: you will receive around 10 to 30 sets of aligners, depending on the severity of your misalignments. You will need to replace your aligners around every two weeks – this is the process that slowly moves your teeth to the desired position, as outlined in your treatment plan.

The thermoplastics used to make Invisalign aligners are very comfortable to wear – they become soft when heated, a process activated by movement. The BPA-free aligners apply a gentle force that moves teeth without sacrificing your comfort or safety.

That’s the scientific bit out of the way, but how do we help you maintain your perfect new smile? Unfortunately, your teeth will begin to move back to their original positions once you stop wearing your aligners – this process is called relapse. That’s why we provide FREE retainers after every treatment. The retainers we choose will depend on your specific case; they may be removable for night-time wear or fixed to the back of your teeth. Either way, they’ll be invisible too!

Invisalign treatment usually takes around a year and a half, but it can take as little as six months. In some cases, results can begin to show in a matter of weeks!

Although Invisalign will leave you with a million-dollar smile, it carries more than just aesthetic benefits – it improves your oral health too. Bacteria collect in the crevices of misaligned teeth, and this plaque build-up can eventually cause gum disease and tooth decay. Straight teeth ease the pressure on your jaw, relieving symptoms like headaches and dizziness; plus, Invisalign could improve your digestion by correcting your bite.
