Nine crucial facts about Invisalign in Fulham

In 2022, Invisalign is still one of the most popular orthodontic treatments at our Fulham practice. If you are thinking of investing in a straighter smile, you will want to make your mind up about it - and we’re here to arm you with the facts.

What’s all the fuss about?

It’s no secret that Invisalign has taken the orthodontic world by storm since its launch in 1999. The system has set a new standard for this kind of treatment, revolutionising the options available to dentists and patients.

Here are five critical things you should know about this life-changing treatment before you go ahead:

Invisalign aligners are almost invisible

Made of SmartTrack medical-grade plastic, the aligners are transparent and almost completely undetectable when worn. Unlike traditional train-track braces, they will attract little to no attention.

Whether you’re a child concerned about bullies, a teenager worried about your appearance in photos or an adult seeking treatment that slips under the radar, Invisalign guarantees you the most discreet experience possible.

You can see a simulation of your new smile before you start treatment!

At your free consultation, we will take 3D scans of your mouth and create an image of what your smile could look like post-treatment.

At New Smile Fulham, there is no obligation to go ahead with Invisalign. If you do, we can start treatment within three to four weeks.

You receive multiple pairs of aligners for your treatment

Up to 30, to be exact! Each set is a different size - you will replace them roughly every two weeks as they move your teeth towards the position outlined in your treatment plan.

You need to wear them for 22 hours per day.

Another beauty of Invisalign aligners: they are removable! Although, if you want your treatment to be successful, you must wear them for at least 22 hours per day.

The aligners gradually move your teeth in small movements - this is only possible when the aligners are touching your teeth. Wearing them for too little time could result in delayed results, pain or discomfort.

Avoid certain drinks whilst wearing your aligners.

You can drink water whilst your aligners are in your mouth. Avoid other drinks, especially hot or sugary ones, as these can stain and warp your aligners.

Your mouth might feel slightly sore.

Invisalign aligners are indeed more comfortable than traditional metal ones, although it’s worth noting that you may still feel some soreness or pressure when wearing them. They are moving your teeth, after all!

Luckily, the smooth plastic aligners mean you have no chance of catching your gums or tongue on sharp brackets and wires.

Always store your aligners in their case in-between usages

When you take your aligners out to eat or drink, place them in the case we gave you at the start of your treatment. Storing them will keep them safe from damage and bacteria.

Wear your retainers after treatment

After your treatment, we always provide you with Invisalign Vivera retainers or fixed retainers behind your teeth. Wearing these every night helps keep your new smile as straight as possible.

If you have removable retainers and regularly forget to put them in, your teeth could quickly relapse (move back to their original position).
